What Do You See in the Mirror?
written by Selin Steinacher CPT, CN
It’s a Monday morning and you wake up feeling less-than-rested. You roll over to shut your alarm off one, two, three times before actually rolling out of bed to begin your day. The kids need food, your husband is used to his morning coffee being hot and ready for him, and you put yourself on the back burner for the first hour of the day in order to serve your family. So many mothers/wives do this, and it’s borderline expected that your family comes first in the morning. Having a servant’s heart is a wonderful thing, but how can you serve others if you have not taken care of yourself first?
Once you’ve gotten the kids out the door and your husband’s lunch packed, you start your process of getting ready. Hair, make-up, quick breakfast bar with your coffee in hand then out the door! But as you make your way to leave, you pass the large mirror in your hall and see a reflection of yourself and you cringe. You have bags under your eyes, a little bit more weight around your midsection, and your skin doesn’t look as vibrant as it used to. “What’s wrong with me?” you may ask yourself.
Not a damn thing. You are beautiful. You are a mother. A wife. A superhero, if you will. The one thing I will always preach to my clients is that YOU have to come first and YOU have to be taken care of in order to take care of those you love. So next time you go to lay your head down, set your alarm 30-45 minutes earlier. Get up on the first alert and make yourself some tea or coffee. Go find a quiet spot in your house where you can sit and breathe. Have a journal nearby in case you need to write out some of the feelings from the day before. Center yourself before the havoc begins and I can honestly promise you, you will notice the difference. Make yourself a nutrient-loaded smoothie and take your supplements before getting the kids up. You’ll start your day on the right foot! Your body is satiated, centered, and your mind is in a calm place. Make yourself a priority each and every morning and it will transform your mind, your family, and your life. If these habits and lifestyle changes are something you need assistance with, do not hesitate to schedule a free consultation with Nutrition Dynamic to see if our health coaches can educate you and assist in these lifestyle shifts.
So next time you see your reflection, remember the badass you are! You are the strong woman that has brought herself this far. You are the wonderful mother that cares for her family day-in and day-out. You are the loving wife that has raised an amazing family. You are a beautiful human being creating an impact. Now, what do you see in the mirror?
